Saludarte-IdeoBox, Miami; From the “Uprooting Architectures” Exhibitions
(4th Chapter)
The 2015 Saludarte Foundation / Ideobox Artspace Exhibition Series marks a continuation from certain interrogations presented during the previous season, driving the discussion on architecture and topographic analysis to an exam on the simbolic value of the place as a matter by itself. This research is, therefore, encouraged to produce a reflective orientation towards the discovery of different ways for appropriating the notion of the local.
The Series, and specially its first episode commissioned to Andrés Michelena, claims the necessary performativity in the process of occupying the space, and asks about the action as the only mode to make possible the free circulation of the discourses that are confronted within the city. How to think about the place but from a fragile perspective that allows us to link the positions of those who are going to inhabit the city with the natural flow of its seeming inmutable history? Plication, landscape and formal interest happen to be examples of a weak urban politics: a way to inhabit between the empirical and the metaphysical.

El ciclo curatorial de la Fundación Saludarte / Ideobox Artspace de 2015 da inicio a partir de ciertos interrogantes derivados de la anterior temporada y conduce la discusión sobre la pertinencia de los análisis topográficos y arquitectónicos de la ciudad hacia la preocupación sobre el valor intrínseco del lugar, en una escala más orientada a la reflexión orgánica por descubrir distintas formas de apropiación de lo local.
El ciclo, y en especial su primer episodio desarrollado por Andrés Michelena, reivindica la performatividad necesaria en el proceso de ocupación y plantea la acción como única vía para la circulación libre de los discursos que se cruzan en la ciudad. ¿Cómo pensar el lugar si no es desde la forma frágil que permite permear las posiciones de quienes lo van a habitar con el transcurso natural de su aparente historia inmutable? Pliegue, paisaje y voluntad formal terminan siendo ejemplos de una misma política urbana débil: un modo de habitar entre lo empírico y lo metafísico.

The 2015 Saludarte Foundation / Ideobox Artspace Exhibition Series picks up from certain questionings posed during the previous season, leading the discussion on the appropriateness of the architectural and topographic analyses of the city to an examination of the intrinsic value of place itself, on a scale more oriented towards an organic reflection upon the discovery of different ways of appropriating the notion of the local.

La aproximación que asumí para este proyecto fue la de la fragilidad de la memoria.
Se entrecruzan así, dos periodos fundamentales de mi vida y de mi trabajo artístico.
El primero, mi periodo en Caracas, incluyendo mi formación dentro de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Central de Venezuela. El segundo, mi residencia en Miami a partir del año 2000.
De la interconexión surgen una serie de trabajos combinando materiales de ambos periodos, con los cuales rindo homenaje a diferentes personalidades que fueron, son y probablemente seguirán siendo influyentes, ya que fueron parte integral de mi formación.
De esta manera la memoria funciona como puente que a-temporaliza leve y momentáneamente la acción.
