Artist Statement
I am convinced that, for human beings, there is nothing more difficult than grappling with the void—in any of its manifestations. Confronting it can induce a sublime state of simultaneous attraction and repulsion. I seek to approach the sublime through the void, employing strategies that evoke it.
“Silence is a void
My work tries to approach the void (
). The irony of emptiness is that the more we talk about it, the farther away we go.”
Through my work, I delve into the paradoxical nature of the void, where absence and presence intersect. Emptiness can be unsettling, challenging our human desire for substance and meaning. I focus my attention on the tension between the discomfort of nothingness and the liberation of open possibility. By confronting the void, I aim to reveal the fragility and resilience of the human experience, highlighting our instinctive fear of emptiness and our simultaneous yearning for the freedom it offers.Inspired by the concept of "Chôra" in ancient Greek philosophy, I see my art as a contemporary interpretation of this receptive space. Like "Chôra", my works are not mere absences, but potential sites for reception and transformation. Through this dialogue, I aim to uncover the beauty and depth that lies within the spaces between, and how the void can shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
